Vaccinations & Parasite Protection

What vaccinations does your pet require?

Each pet will have a wellness plan, which includes vaccinations and parasite prevention, that is specifically tailored based on their lifestyle and risk level. In general, we follow the World Small Animal Veterinary Association Vaccine Guidelines and are pleased to offer some vaccines every 3 years (certain exceptions apply).
Common canine diseases we vaccinate against:
  • Distemper
  • Parvovirus
  • Adenovirus (hepatitis)
  • Rabies
  • Bordetella (kennel cough)
  • Parainfluenza

Common feline diseases we vaccinate against:
  • Panleukopenia
  • Rhinotracheitis
  • Calicivirus
  • Rabies
  • Feline Leukemia Virus

Why is parasite prevention critical to your pet's wellness?

Those creepy crawly parasites are incredibly easy for your pet to pick up from the environment. In Calgary, we have a climate that fluctuates a great deal, which means that many common parasites (such as roundworms) are prevalent year round. Some parasites (such as ticks and mosquitoes) carry dangerous diseases that can be transmitted to your pet, including lyme disease and heartworm. For families with children especially, it is important to know that some parasites (such as the common roundworm and hookworm) can be transmitted to people.

Recommendations for dogs (exceptions apply depending on lifestyle):
  • Year-round monthly parasite protection with Heartgard (internal parasites prevention)
  • March-October monthly parasite protection with Nexgard or Advantix (external parasite prevention)

Recommendations for cats
  • Every 3 months year round with Milbemax (if going outside)
  • Every 6-12 months with Milbemax (if indoor only)
